Shakuntala Devi Remembered With Google Doodle (DETAILS)

Shakuntala Devi got the Google Doodle treatment today. Devi, for decades, was known around the world as the human computer, capable of making incredibly fast mathematical calculations since the age of 5.

Devi published many books on mathematics but one of her most famous and rare works was about homosexulity, published after her marriage to a gay man ended in divorce.

Rather than respond negatively with fear and homophobia, Devi interviewed homosexuals, including her husband,  in India and abroad, and published The World of Homosexuals. The book was published in the 1970s, is very rare and compassionate.

Devi died in April 2013 in India from respiratory infections. She would have been 84 today..
