Thousands Protest Against Nuclear Power In Japan (PHOTOS)

Over 9,000 Japanese citizens marched in the streets of Tokyo on Sunday to protest the Japanese government use of nuclear power. Chanting “Stop the atom” and “Don’t pollute our sea,” activists also called on Japanese media to report more often on the situation at the Fukishima power plant which was damaged by the 2011 quake and tsunami.

Last week it was reported that the plant was leaking radioactive water into the ocean. A few days later, several workers were splashed with the same water. The incidents come as the Japanese government decide whether to keep Fukushima open and as over 70% of Japanese people polled call for the end of nuclear power plants.

More photos of the protest, which ended with a rally in front of the headquarters of Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco), the operator of the crippled Fukushima power plant, after the break.
